As Chicagoans and Runners, we tend to talk about the weather…a lot. We complain when it’s too cold and when it’s too hot and always prefer 50 degrees when we’re running and 75 when we stop.

After running the Chase Corporate Challenge and pacing Soldier Field 10 miler this past weekend, it was a good reminder of what it’s like to run in the heat and humidity. Summer is here and comes with it, potentially dangerous conditions.

Below is a very useful chart showing what temperature it really feels like relative to the humidity:

We can all be safe and have fun in the warmer temperatures. Just make sure to stay hydrated (before, during, and post run), wear light clothing, apply sunscreen, and most importantly slow your pace when the temperatures rise.
